Posts on the VerifySOS blog are published under the byline Jordan Hale, VerifySOS Research, the name the VerifySOS team writes under. This page explains where our facts come from and how to tell us when something is wrong.
Where the facts come from
We research posts from the official sources that hold the records:
- State Secretary of State (or equivalent business-filing agency) websites, for entity status, filing rules and search tools
- County clerk and recorder websites, for DBA, assumed-name and fictitious-name filings
- FMCSA (the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration), for USDOT and MC carrier records
When a post states a rule, a status term, a deadline or a fee, the government source is the authority. If a post and the official source disagree, the official source is right and the post gets corrected. Rules change, so check the agency's own site before you act on a detail.
Review dates
Each post shows a Last reviewed date: the date the post was last updated, or the date it was published if it has not been updated since. When we correct or update a post, that date changes.
Corrections
Found something wrong or out of date? Email [email protected] or use the contact form. Include the post's address and, if you can, a link to the official page that shows the right answer. We fix confirmed errors and update the review date.
What posts are not
Posts are general information for business-verification work. They are not legal, tax or credit advice. VerifySOS is not affiliated with any Secretary of State, county clerk, FMCSA/USDOT or other government agency.
